Edward VIII | The Abdication Crisis | What happens when a King doesn’t want to be a King?

On 10th December 1936, King Edward VIII abdicated, the first and only king in British history to do so willingly. In our line of monarchs, Edward VIII is the only one to have turned his back on the Crown and the position of Head of the Church in England. Could he actually have also been turning his back on the country?
